Grapplers Planet is pleased to introduce Bruno Tostes. A Renzo Gracie black belt, Tostes runs his own Team Renzo Gracie school in Latham, New York. He is an accomplished and active black belt competitor.
GP: What titles have you won competition?
Tostes: Multiple times Grapplers Quest Champion, Pan Ams Gi and No Gi Medalist, NY Open Champion, 3x Renzo Gracie Invitational, NAGA Champion, to name a few…
GP: What does it mean to you to have a black belt?
Tostes: The Black Belt means everything for me. It’s something that I worked really hard to achieve, I’m really proud to wear it and represent my team.
GP: Who gave you your black belt? When?
Tostes: Renzo Gracie, June 2009.
GP: Where are you from and when did you start Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?
Tostes: I’m from Belo Horizonte Brazil, I started training in 1999 at Cristiano Titi Lazzarini’s school. My first class was taught by Romulo Barral.
GP: Why did you Start BJJ?
Tostes: A friend was training at that school and always when we used to spar he would bring me to the ground and submit me, then I started to realize the importance of a solid BJJ foundation in a fight.
GP: What do you like best about competing?
Tostes: I love BJJ tournaments. I always compete to see how well I can use my technique against tough guys…
GP: What do you like best about teaching?
Tostes: The best thing about teaching and running my school is that I’m not only showing my students a few moves, but all the other benefits that BJJ has to offer. The reward of seeing them getting better and understanding more about BJJ is priceless…
