GRAPPLERSPLANET.COM is pleased to introduce BJJ Black belt, Professor Daniel Guillemette. A BTT Canada Black Belt under Prof. Fabio Holanda,
Prof. Guillemette owns and teaches at Arts Martiaux Evolution, Gatineau Quebec.
GP: How long have you been doing BJJ?
Guillemette: 18 years
GP: What do you love about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?
Guillemette: I have been doing various martial arts for 32 years and it is by far the most
technical art to date. There is an answer for every situation.
GP: What is your favorite submission?
Guillemette: Since my last injury I have lost a lot of strength in my right bicep so I have gravitated towards the kimura. They are everywhere. Once the grip is locked, and if you have a good game with it, the kimura is a dangerous weapon in BJJ. It also helps that one my instructors is the King of Kimura.
GP: What is your favorite part about being a professor?
Guillemette: Seeing the expression on a student’s face when you show them the simplest thing. It reminds me of how I felt learning all those little details that make all the difference in the world.
GP: How would you describe your BJJ style?
Guillemette: Ever changing. I’ve had a lot of very good instructors. Some that would use machine gun style submissions. Some that would just break you and control you. And now its more about setting traps and flowing.
About 14 years ago I thought I knew a lot. The more I learn the more I realize I still have a lot to learn.
GP: Any advice for aspiring BJJ practitioners?
Guillemette: The more you put into it the more you get out of it.
And the belt around your waist matters less than the time you put on the mat. So go get changed and lets train.
